Border Security: an introduction to UK capability

Border

Launched by the Department for International Trade at an industry event on 24 November, ‘Border Security: An introduction to UK capability’ is the second in a series of promotional brochures that highlight the UK security sector’s strengths to overseas buyers.

This brochure considers what products and services UK companies provide that can help countries to secure their land, sea and air borders. Broad in scope, it looks at capabilities spanning the detection of illicit goods concealed in vehicles to ground sensors and aerial surveillance solutions. The brochure also contains a series of case studies that feature UK products and services that can be utilised by border sudoagencies across the world.

The Border Security brochure also provides context-setting summaries from Government and industry on the UK’s experience in this area. These consider the  new and emerging issues that need to be addressed when countries are seeking novel solutions to secure their borders and have been provided by Paul Lincoln CB OBE, the outgoing head of the UK’s Border Force and by Tony Smith CBE, Managing Director of Fortinus Global and the chair of the International Border Management and Technologies Association (IBMATA).

Referencing the launch of this new brochure, Mark Goldsack, Director of UK Defence & Security Exports said, “This brochure is the second in our series of promotional publications sharing information on the expertise UK companies offer overseas buyers, from providing tried and tested products to the most innovative solutions.

“These documents are a product of the close partnership between industry and the UK Government. They highlight the strength and capability of the UK security industry, including the world class training and services which are relied upon by governments and agencies around the world. We hope that this brochure provides a compelling picture for our overseas customers, whether they are governments or the private sector.”

The Border Security brochure is the latest development in UK Defence & Security Exports’ ongoing work to bolster support for UK exporters, which follows swiftly on from the launch of a new Export Faculty on 18 November. Designed to complement the Department for International Trade’s Export Academy this new initiative combines webinars, seminars and workshops to help UK SMEs in the defence, security and cyber security sectors export successfully. Further brochures in the UK Capability series will follow on support for first responders, the protection of commercial and residential infrastructure and other areas in the near future.

These brochures are an indication of the close collaboration that the Government enjoys with our domestic security industry. We have been supported throughout the development process by secondees from the sector who have given freely of their time to help ensure that they represent a true reflection of UK industry’s strengths in the areas that they cover.
